Archuleta Scores Biggest American Idol Hit In Two Years
It used to be automatic. Every year, an American Idol contestant would hit #1 with their sappy end of season winning song. This happened five years in a row until Jordin Sparks cookie cutter glop of a single, "This Is My Now" peaked at a disappointing #15. (She made up for it later, "No Air" with Chris Brown went to #3 this year.) David Cook couldn't manage a chart topper either but at least he did better than Sparks with a #3 placing for "The Time Of My Life".
This week, David Archuleta debuted the top charting song from an American Idol contestant since 2006 with "Crush". The track opens at #2 with 166,000 digital downloads behind only Rihanna's "Disturbria" which remains at #1 for a second week. "Crush" is also the highest charting single by a Latter-day Saint since Donny Osmond's "Soldier Of Love" reached #2 in 1988.

I love how there are scriptures sitting on the piano behind him.
Love the David! True, his first single "Crush" is a bit generic--typical for any American Idol contestant's debut single. However, I'm pretty sure we can expect some excellent things from this boy. He's got what it takes, that's for sure!
