"Womanizer" Vanishes
After being the #1 download for seven straight days, Britney Spears' "Womanizer" has mysteriously disappeared from iTunes. Earlier this morning, the song appeared atop the top ten list sans single cover. Customers who clicked on the song were greeted with a message telling them that there request could not be completed. "Live Your Life" has regained it's status as the top seller but the question remains: Where did "Womanizer" go? Could it be that Britney has sold more than enough downloads of the song to guarantee a record setting leap to #1 this Thursday so Jive pulled the plug? Will they put it back up next week hoping for an increased demand in order to keep it at #1 for as long as possible? Will they keep it off indefinitely to boost sales of Circus? Is this some anti-Britney conspiracy cooked up by Christina Aguilera and the tabloids? Developing...

It's a vast anti-Britney conspiracy. So what if her record company thought she has enough sales to go #1 and then it ended up that she didn't or it ended up that "Live Your Life" had massive airplay this week and she was #2? That would be disappointing.

It would make sense if her CD was out...but it's not...

The only thing that would make sense would be if she has the #1 in the bag and Jive wants to hold out until next week to sell again so that she is guaranteed at least two good weeks in the upper echelons of the charts. That's a pretty risky decision though because if anyone wants the song from now until then, their only option is illegal downloads.

It's back...sort of. It's #5 on iTunes but if you actually click on the top 100, it's nowhere to be found...

From the blog at britney.com: Anyway, Jive is looking into this problem as we speak, and they're working to get it resolved ASAP. There seems to be a glitch with iTunes, as Jive did not ask that the single be removed.
