Cheryl Cole Goes No. 1 In UK

Former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole topped the British singles chart this week with her debut solo single "Fight For This Love".

Girls Aloud formed in 2002 as winners of the the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals. The group went on to score four No. 1 singles and twenty consecutive top 10 hits, a British record. They were crowned "Most Successful Reality TV Group" by the Guinness Book of World Records and the "one truly great pop act" reality TV has given us by Pitchfork.

The Aloud fought the urge to breakup and pursue solo careers for seven years and six studio albums. The group insists that they have not broken up but are on "hiatus". Cole is the first to put out solo material. Her album is set to be more R&B based as opposed to the sonically eclectic sounds of the Aloud's material.

You've got to give it to Cole for wanting her record to not sound like just another Girls Aloud record, but "Fight" is pretty weak. Still, the star is all over British television with her L'Oreal advertisement as well as being a judge on X Factor, the British version of American Idol.

Cole knocked last season's X Factor winner, Alexandra Burke out of the No. 1 spot.
