Chart Watch: Ke$ha's "Tik" Tops

Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" rises 2-1 this week to become the first No. 1 of the 2010s. Although the charts were released today, they are labeled "week of January 2, 2010". "Tik Tok", Ke$ha's debut single, is actually her second appearance at No. 1. The singer contributed back-up vocals to Flo Rida's "Right Round" earlier this year, although she was uncredited.

"Tik Tok" is also the fifth debut single by an artist to go No. 1 in the past 12 months. Lady Gaga, Jay Sean, Owl City, and Jason DeRulo all went No. 1 with their first singles.

The rest of the top ten is rather stationary this week. Rihanna was close to moving into the winner's circle when "Hard" moved 21-11. Expect massive sales to play a major factor is next week's charts as millions of new iPod owners and/or people given iTunes gift cards decide to cash in. The week following Christmas has always been one of the biggest digital sales week, and the top selling single week's for a song always occur in the twilight of the year.
