2010 Grammy Award Results

The 2010 Grammy Awards were one of the highest watched in years.  The show had an audience of 25.8 million people, up 35 percent from last year.

Beyonce lead the winners with six awards, the most by a female in a single night.  Her "Halo" won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" won Song of the Year.

Album of the Year was won by Taylor Swift, the youngest artist to ever win in this category.  Swift also walked home with a Grammy for Best Country Album, Best Female Country Performance for "White Horse", and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for "Breathe" with Colbie Callait.

Record of the Year was awarded to Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody", and the Zac Brown Band took home the award for Best New Artist.

The 2010 Grammy Awards show is only a day away.  Start freaking out.  Head on over to the We're All Fans website to hold you over until the show.  I'm a big fan of the site and the entire campaign for the 2010 Grammy Awards.  Often critisized for being geared towards older music fans and being out of date, this campaign shows that they want (and need) younger viewers to tune in.  The site features a collage of social network mementos making the face of some of the year's biggest stars including Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, The Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, and Kings of Leon.  Go check the site out.  No, seriously.

Grammy Prognostications

Ballots for the 2010 Grammys are now out and as the members of the Recording Academy decide who will be nominated, music blog Hits Daily Double has made its initial guesses at who will be up for awards.

Country crossover darling Taylor Swift is predicted to do extremely well. Her Fearless is in a neck and neck battle with Michael Jackson for best selling album of the year and has produced four top ten singles. Nashville has a strong presence in the Academy (how else would the Dixie Chicks done so well in 2007?) giving Swift the edge.

Kanye West has done so well at the annual awards show, he even immortalized it in song. "Grammy night, damn right, we get dressed up". Sure, go off about how cocky he is, but the guy has won 12 Grammys! Up to this point, 808s & Heartbreak hasn't gotten the credit it deserves, but expect that to change in January.

HDD also predicts Green Day will do well at the show. Their 21st Century Breakdown didn't shift the copies or wow the critics the way American Idiot did, but when did that stop Billie Joe Armstrong and the gang? They'll most likely be up against another massive rock band with a lackluster album, U2, so it will be interesting to see who prevails in that category.

Whitney Houston might end up stealing the show. Her comeback, I Look To You, was just barley released in time to be eligible for next year's Grammys. The storyline behind her fall from grace and Clive Davis climb back to the spotlight might be too good for the Academy to reward.

The 52nd annual Grammy awards show will be broadcast on January 31 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
