Jason DeRulo became the fourth artist to go No. 1 with a debut single in 2009 as "Whatcha Say" rises 2-1.

"Whatcha Say" prominently features a sample of Imogeon Heap's "Hide And Seek". It's a wonder she isn't featured in the credits because the entire chorus is her vocals slammed through the remixer.

Fans of Heap are outraged by "Whatcha Say".

"Took a perfectly beautiful song and destroyed and commercialized it," said xo_dahling on iTunes.

"No no no no no no no no no no times a million. He just ruined one of my favorite songs. maybe it's not ruined if I just don't listen to it. Ugh. If this gets anywhere near the top 100 I'll piss my pants," said thisisaweirdsong.

Today, someone somewhere on the Internet is pissing their pants. I wonder if anyone got this upset when T.I. and Rihanna massacred and commercialized the beautiful "Numa Numa" song last year.

The other three artists to go No. 1 with their debut single this year were Lady Gaga with "Just Dance", Jay Sean with "Down", and last week's chart topper, Owl City with "Fireflies".

Jay-Z sets a new peak for "Empire State of Mind", his duet with Alicia Keys. The song was under performing compared to its Rihanna featuring cousin "Run This Town", but after a performance at Game 2 of the World Series, the track took off. Its digital sales jumped 62% this week. Damn Yankees.

New entrants to the top 10 this week include Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, both of which are re-releasing their platinum selling albums. Gaga's "Bad Romance" debuts at No. 9 and Swift is right behind her at No. 10 with "Jump Then Fall".

Taylor Swift actually set a record this week for most songs to debut in the top 30 in one week. The tracks from the re-release of Fearless all sold well individually. Besides the aforementioned "Jump Then Fall" at No. 10, Swift charted with "Untouchable" (No. 19), "The Other Side of the Door" (No. 22), "Superstar" (No. 27), and "Come In With The Rain" (No. 30).

I guess I'm superficial and commercialized because I happen to like "Whatcha Say" AND "Hide and Seek", as well as "Live Your Life" that was alluded to. I feel it could do without the "Numa Numa" addition, along with "Sugar" not having its "Blue" infusion.

Although Derulo may have commerciaized "Hide and Seek", I feel he further brough Imogen Heap out of obscurity and probably increased the number of listeners to "Hide and Seek", but I don't know for sure.

"Whatcha Say" is good in the same way "Tik Tok" is good. Let's leave it at that.
